Historical Assets Survey

historic house historic school

Up until the 1980's historical buildings in Redford were destroyed without discreation. This remained true on a selective basis after that. A few years ago, a historic church was demolished to make way for a medical clinic. on Beech-Daly. To help prevent this needless destruction of our heritage a survey is being conducted listing our historical assets in the community. It is mostly done. The survey will be available to the public on this website.

Potential Monument Sites Survey

possible monument site 1 possible monument site 2

Monuments within a community provide a subliminal feeling of uniqueness. Redford has a lack of historical markers, monuments to significant events, and art in public places. To make siting such monuments easier a survey is being conducted to identify sites that would serve the community best with the placement of these monuments when and if the opportunity arises. It is mostly done. The survey will be available to the public on this website.

Review of Redford's Use of its Policing Powers

There have been accounts of people who have sought information from the local government, disagreed with the local government, or made political statements and within a short time they would receive a ticket for things like having their garbage cans not properly stored. The Cooperative is looking for other accounts of this behavior. Please email your specifics to greaterredford at yahoo.com and it will be used to round out this review of this pattern of behavior.

Redford's Laws and the Constitution

The law governing the use of political signs was viewed as being unconstitutional by the ACLU. Although people were ticketed under this law and penalized under it, it was unconstitutional. This is not the first time this has taken place. There have been several instances of people having to appeal their cases to higher courts only to have Redford's law struck down. This turns out to be the attempt to control a citizenery without regard to the prevailing understanding of the Constitution. There are two punishments that an individual goes through when they go into the judicial system: 1) being in the system missing work, paying for an attorney, ridicule, and whatever other costs there may be, and 2) the actual punishment if convicted. It is just another form of bullying. The Cooperative will look at the community's laws and present the more questionable ones in a future report.

Bike/Walking/Jogging Trails

For thirty years, trail systems, that go somewhere, have been attempted in Redford, but have not materialized. This is too long of a period to keep this community asset from the public. A review and report of the possibilities will be produced.

Moving patients to mental health: A case study

In our fractured health care system, mental heath is only a part, but it is a part where people are treated as children of a lesser god. In this case study, a patient took 5 days to find placement into a health care facility. Five days is not typical, but one or two days is. Since it seems that no one is looking over the mental health care systems shoulder, this is an everyday occurance. We as a society look down upon those affected with mental illness, but treating them as a lesser being is not acceptable by any standard, not for this day and age.
